The Dr. Mary Emily Miller Endowment, created through a generous bequest by Dr. Miller to the Society, provides travel funding for up to two student members whose papers have been accepted for presentation at the Society’s annual meeting.
If you've written a research paper for your college or graduate school class that centers on the history and impact of geographic discoveries, you are invited to submit the paper for Student Prize consideration. Awardees, in addition to receiving a cash prize, are invited to present a version of the paper at the SHD Annual Conference and may submit for possible inclusion in the Society's peer-reviewed journal, Terrae Incognitae.
The Lintner Field Research Travel Award was established in 2026 by a long-time member of SHD. It is open to graduate students in master's or doctoral programs at an accredited college or university and who are members of The Society for the History of Discoveries. Two awards of up to $1500 each may be given annually. Click the AWARD DETAILS link below for the CALL FOR PROPOSALS for 2026 award applications and details of the application process.
